Dispatch

Key Topics: Work Rules

The restructuring path will not be easy and will require difficult decisions. Our goal was to make fundamental changes to the Dispatch operation that are necessary for a long-term sustainable cost structure.

The company needs to improve productivity because today, American's Dispatchers are scheduled for fewer annual hours than Dispatchers at most other airlines.

Our agreement establishes a work cycle of up to 219 days per year, with the requirement that an employee will bid annually, by seniority, one 30-day pattern in which they will be scheduled an additional six days as ready reserve. Increasing each employee’s schedule on an annual basis will help achieve the increased productivity the company is seeking.

Unfortunately, these work schedule changes may result in a reduction of the number of Dispatchers required to cover the operation by approximately eight positions.
